This a high level impression of the functionality of Neuralink

I have looked at many videos, and some documentation of how Elon Musk’s Neuralink works. Based on the videos, and documentation I was able to view on the internet, while the technology does measures spikes in neurological charges on the brain’s surface and records an energy spike pattern specific to the direction the eye is moving. I was surprised to understand that the “link” that they embed in the brain, does not actually read the messages that travel though the neurons in the brain.

As I understand the technology to work, there is a computer that records eye movements, in relation to the patterns it records over the surface of the brain. It then creates a program, that will only track the patterns it detects. Each pattern it detects, seems to be unique, and represents a direction to move the cursor on the screen. I assume, that there are a high number of patterns that are recorded in Neuralink’s software. Why I was disappointed, was the marketing campaign I saw on TV and the internet (YouTube etc.), that sold this technology as a breakthrough persuading people that this embedded link was capable of reading the messages sent through the brain and neurological network.

Assuming I understand the concept accurately, since I do have some experience with technology, especially software engineering, in programming circles many may consider this more of a “hack” rather than a real technological breakthrough. I have looked at several projects that make the claim that they are reading the messages being sent through the energy being transmitted between neurons, and through the nervous system. Some researchers, even predict that the messages are like “1’s and “0’ in binary representations. However, to date, I have not heard of any researcher identifying any real message that they can decode, translating a specific instruction from one point to the other.

In my opinion, assuming I have an accurate impression of the concept of the Neuralink Technology, this end game, or result, of the eye moving a cursor across the screen, is more of an emulation, not a technological breakthrough, because the internal logic only measures patterns across the brain, it does not decipher the actual messages being sent from the eye to the brain through the nerve. To date, I have not seen any real scientific evidence that anyone is even close.
